Niles Vikings Varsity defeated Kalamazoo Central 12-2 on Tuesday thanks to a timely seven runs in a big third inning. Niles Vikings Varsity’s big bats in the inning were led by singles by Aynslee Myer, Reese Davies, and Kelsey Barkman and doubles by Alexis Rauch and Taylor Altergott.
Kalamazoo Central opened up scoring in the first inning. Nizzordini hit a solo homer.
Niles Vikings Varsity evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning when Altergott singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Niles Vikings Varsity pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. In the third Myer singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Rauch doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Davies singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Barkman singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and Altergott doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Brooke Timm led the Niles Vikings Varsity to victory on the rubber. She went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking zero.
Miller took the loss for Kalamazoo Central. She allowed 14 hits and 12 runs over five and a third innings, striking out three and walking one.
Niles Vikings Varsity launched one home run on the day. Caitlin Daly had a long ball in the fourth inning.
Niles Vikings Varsity racked up 14 hits. Rauch, Altergott, Daly, and Timm all collected multiple hits for Niles Vikings Varsity. Rauch went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Niles Vikings Varsity in hits. Niles Vikings Varsity was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Daly had the most chances in the field with seven.
