Vikings News · Short-handed Niles tops Lakeshore in SMAC track

A shorthanded Niles boys track team posted an 84-79 win over Lakeshore in Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

“It was a little rough,” Todd said. “We’re missing a lot of key people because of injuries and grades. Grades come before athletics even if it costs us a victory. Grades come first.”

Leading the Vikings was senior Larry Lamb, who was a four-time winner. Lamb finished first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.94), 300-meter hurdles (43.60), pole vault (11-6) and was part of a first place 800-meter relay team (1:35.65) with Conner Amberg, Joe Avance and Jermond Barnes.
Amber also placed first in the 100 (11.74) and 200 meters (23.25).

Another triple winner for the Vikings was Devin Tomlinson, who finished first in the 1,600 meters (4:50.67) and 800 meters (2:17.31).

Tomlinson also contributed to a first place 3,200-meter relay team, which finished with a clocking of 9:02.15.

Also on that relay were Caden Cooper, Maurice Aguirre and Hunter Greenman.

“For once my distance runners really stepped up,” Todd said. “I’m used to my sprinters bailing us out.”

Lakeshore won the girls meet, 114-49.

Finishing in first for the Viking girls were Amber Franklin in the discus (95-9), Antonia Palmer in the high jump (4-9) and Madeline Stanton in the 1,600 meters 14:05.97.
