Niles Varsity Volleyball goes 1-1 at Gull Lake Tri

The Niles Varsity Volleyball Team went 1-1 tonight at the Gull Lake Tri. Niles lost to Gull Lake 22-25 and 21-25. Next, they beat Battle Creek St.Phil 28-26 and 25-17. We like playing at Gull Lake the week before districts each year; it’s always great competition, and we are forced to step up our game and work hard. We beat Gull Lake early in the season, but they were faster than us today, and even though we were point for point in each set, they edged us on a few points and were able to close the match. They are always ranked/Honorable Mention in Class A, so we like the match up. Battle Creek St. Phil always has a solid team, especially defensively. They really made us work offensively to find the holes and put the ball down. It was a good win, and we will hit practice hard tomorrow to work on some of the areas we need to focus on based on our play tonight. We know we will have to play our best ball Saturday as we head to battle it out at the SMAC Conference Tournament. Niles is seeded 3rd overall out of 11 teams heading in to the conference tourney behind Portage Central and Mattawan. The Vikings are now 34-8-3.
